Bike Trail Information
Occasionally we may need to make changes in accessibility to certain bike trails. We will make every effort to keep trails open during construction,
however at times we may need to temporarily close a trail for short periods of time due to construction. Theses closures are not only necessary
to complete the Pipeline Project, but to provide for the safety of the bike riding community and others.
Prior to any changes in trail access we will post signage, maps, and construction notices for the public's information.
You may also check our pre-recorded "Traffic Report" phone line for updated information about bike trail access.
SIGNS TO WATCH FOR
Here's a sample of the type of bike trail signage you might see.
BIKE TRAIL MAPS
RIO VISTA PUMP STATION PROJECT AREA
The Temporary Bike Trail Info Map (PDF)" shows the temporary closure of bike trails due to the construction of new groundwater treatment facility, pump station and installation of transmission pipelines for the Castaic Lake Water Agency's Rio Vista Pump Station.
Due to the limited work space and necessary excavation for the pipeline installation, the bike trail just south of the Rio Vista Pump Station and west Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse parking lot must be temporarily closed. No access will be permitted in this area. Bike trail, leading to this work area, will be temporarily closed.
Maps showing the closure have been posted at the entrance to the trail along Newhall Ranch Road and at the entrance of the Bouquet Canyon Road trail.
The temporary closure of the bike trail will start Tuesday, December 11, 2007 and continue through fall 2008.
Contractor will work between the hours of 6:00 am through 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Weekend work may occur as necessary to complete the project but street traffic and residential neighborhoods should not be impacted.
Please respect all constructions signs for your safety and obey all traffic laws.
PERCHLORATE PIPELINE AND TREATMENT PROJECT AREA
The Pipeline Project and Temporary Bike Trails Map (PDF) shows the entire construction area for the Perchlorate Pipeline and Treatment Project. The project consists of installing 3 1/2 miles of new subterranean water pipelines to clean up perchlorate contamination of our groundwater aquifer, which resulted in the closure of certain wells. The project started in November 2007 and is estimated to be completed by the end of 2008.
In order to lessen long-term project impacts and to ensure immediate access to the pipelines, the alignment of the project will be centered around the Auto Mall area in the northwest part of the City of Santa Clarita along existing bike trails and also on the eastern part of the City along San Fernando Road. Before installation of the new pipelines, temporary bike trails will be built to provide access to this community asset throughout construction. There will be periodic traffic lane reductions and modified access to local businesses as well as rerouting of some local bike trails to provide for safe pedestrian and bicycle access in the project area.
