Professional and Community Activities: B.J. Atkins has served on the Newhall County Water District (NCWD) Board of Directors since being elected in 2005. He served as Board President in 2008 and in January 2009 he was appointed NCWD liaison member to the CLWA Board.
Since the inception of Atkins Environmental H.E.L.P., Inc. in 1989, the full service environmental consulting firm’s work has led Mr. Atkins to a strong understanding of the principles of drinking water quality and supply. He served as chair of the Valencia Industrial Association’s Environmental Committee where he helped foster the expansion of the Valencia Industrial Association into the Valley Industrial Association while serving as President in 2002. He served as chair of the B2B industry show during its inaugural year in 2002. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce and as COC Foundation Board Chair in 1989 and 1990. Mr. Atkins was honored to be named COC Alumni of the Year in 2001.
He has served on or remains a member in good standing with several industry trade associations/committees including the Indoor Air Quality Association, the American Indoor Air Quality Council, the Association of Energy Engineers, the Air & Waste Management Association, the Academy of Certified Hazardous Material Managers and the new Association of Hazardous Material Professionals, among others.
Mr. Atkins has called the Santa Clarita Valley home since 1966 . He is a graduate of Hart High School and received his A.A. from College of the Canyons and a degree in Oceanography and Economics at Humboldt State University.
